SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless gaming mouse review: versatile, light and wireless

Ergonomics

The Aerox 5 Wireless uses the exact same format as its cousin, the Rival 5. It has the same buttons, the same wheel and a right-hand configuration only. The design of the hull is of course different, the Aerox being honeycombed and no RGB LED strip to handle as much weight as possible; a design that can accumulate dust, but IP54 certification should prevent any damage.

The mouse is hollow, but IP54 certified.

This wireless model weighs only 74 g, which is lighter than many mice of its kind, or even wired competitors. As such, it remains far behind the featherweights on the market that now fall below the 60 g mark. This light allows any case to easily perform large hand movements on a carpet. Its dimensions (12.9 x 6.8 x 4.2 cm) make it a mouse suitable for large hands that can use it on holding the palm (holding palm) and of course also grip on the nail (on the nail) or fingertip (with finger tips).

The main buttons are very responsive and are always guaranteed 80 million clicks. Otherwise, you’ll find a fairly standard notched rubber wheel-here there’s no smooth or horizontal scrolling-and just above a button to adjust the sensitivity to manage the level of easy. Like Rival, there are several secondary buttons: two classic buttons, and two extra. The one located on the thumb is silver and allows you to place a shortcut. However, it is not possible to use it as a “sniper” button to lower the sensor’s sensitivity to the duration of a shot, which is often the advantage of this position. It’s also far from the thumb – even with our big hands – unless we use the mouse. grip on the nail.

Many shortcuts can be configured with different buttons.

Another secondary button than a button not seen by other manufacturers. Located on top of the two usual secondary buttons, it can be activated with a nudge up or down, and thus offers two more shortcuts. Unfortunately, you have to give a certain amount of pressure to click well in one direction or the other and we want it to be more sensitive and more reactive. These four secondary buttons provide good versatility to the mouse, so that it can be used in different types of games (FPS, MOBA, etc.) and has many shortcuts. In practice, you have to get used to it, and while some players are grateful for it, others will no longer use many buttons.

The mouse palm is good, but the silver button is too far from the thumb.

The Aerox 5 Wireless is a wireless model and connects via Bluetooth, or thanks to the Quantum 2.0 receiver that offers a fast 2.4 GHz radio connection to suffer with no latency. But autonomy is affected, from 180 hours with Bluetooth to 80 hours with dongle, which remains to be said to be very accurate. It connects to USB-C, but SteelSeries provides an adapter to connect it to the braided charging cable USB-A / USB-C.

Under the mouse, we only find a Bluetooth / off / 2.4 GHz button that allows you to select the type of connection you want, as well as PTFE pads that ensure smooth sliding on a carpet .

How does grading work?

The SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless is an interesting mouse in more ways than one. With 74 g of it, it’s definitely not one of the lightest wireless models on the market, but it offers a lot more buttons than most of its ultralight competitors and therefore more versatility for gamers who want to i configure in-game shortcuts. As such, not all Users should need multiple buttons, so this can be a mistake for some.
