Roches-sur-Marne: a competition with a dog

agility The agility competition organized by the Rochois du Champ-Chevalier canine club took place on Sunday 24 July. More than 70 competitors from Lorraine, Burgundy, Champagne and even from the Center.

“It’s less than other years”said the president, Sandra Debucquet. The most important events took place in the morning before 10:30 in the morning as long as it was a bit cooler and so that the farthest competitors left again early. Judge Roger Dupont, from Cholet (Maine-et-Loire), developed different courses according to levels, determining the number of obstacles, their location and the distance between them. With each change of level, the masters adapt the space, repeating the movements to be made to guide their animal. While the tests follow each other, Sabrina, Mary, Hélène, Maéric and Maelle, volunteers of the fifty members of the club, call the candidates, carefully recording the times, noticing mistakes or elimination. “It is important that the master positions himself correctly so that the dog can complete an impeccable course”, they assured. They comment on a spoon (wide arm movement to show the direction of the dog) or a brownie (to pass the dog from left to right from behind), noticing the removal of a border collie crossing the an obstacle in the wrong direction, laughed at a driver falling in front of a tunnel while his dog was swallowed by the “bad” neighboring tunnel. The atmosphere was good and everyone applauded the performance of Nadine, 79, Auboise from Montigny-les-Monts, who formed a team with her 10-year-old border collie, Gump. Two dogs from the Champ-Chevalier club retired, Ilona, 9 years old, from Maelle Debucquet and Helloween, 10 years old, from Maéric Debucquet. They made a final run to loud applause. Vincent Bernard, who was driving his dog Jolie Cannelle, was about to leave the club because he was transferred to the North. Cups and various awards were handed out, including 4th in the “best” categories before everyone went home with the promise of a well-deserved rest.
