DUBAI, 26th July 2022 (WAM) — In accordance with the directives of the Vice President, Prime Minister and Governor of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aiming to make Dubai a leading center in the world economy, and in line with the launch of the Dubai Metaverse Strategy by the Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Government of Dubai formed the High Committee for Future Technologies and the Digital Economy .

Chaired by the Crown Prince of Dubai, the High Committee aims to help shape the future of artificial intelligence (AI) by investing in the metaverse and building partnerships to develop Dubai’s digital economy.

Commenting on the launch of the High Committee, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed said that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s vision has strengthened Dubai’s status as a leading global hub for new innovative concepts. and disruptive business models and technology by deploying advanced technologies in key sectors to improve people’s living standards.

Sheikh Hamdan said that Dubai is a global test for technology and future business models aimed at creating new economic opportunities, making Dubai the hub of the global digital economy.

He added, “We are working as a team to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global cradle and research laboratory for future technologies and one of the top ten metaverse economies in the world, in line with Dubai’s metaverse strategy.”

The members of the High Committee for Future Technologies and Digital Economy are the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy and vice-chairman of the committee, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama; the Director General of the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai, Helal Saeed Al Marri; Dubai Digital Authority Director General Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori; the managing director of the Dubai Future Foundation, Khalfan Belhoul; Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy Board Vice Chairman Ahmed Bin Byat; Dubai Development Authority Chief Executive Malek Al Malek; DIFC Authority Director General Arif Amiri; and the general rapporteur of the committee, Maha Al Mezaina.

The Committee will design policies and analyze trends in the digital economy and future technologies, including Metaverse, AI, Blockchain, Web3, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Internet of things (IoT ), data center and cloud computing in Dubai. The committee will oversee the implementation of strategies related to the digital economy and future technologies in Dubai.

The committee will work to identify the future skills needed for digital sectors and advise economic sectors in the digital economy. The committee will also monitor the performance of the digital economy and ensure that its contribution to Dubai’s economy matches global benchmarks.

The committee also plans to attract international companies and conferences specialized in future technologies and the digital economy. In addition, it will establish strategic partnerships with entities working in the field of digital economy around the world.

Sheikh Hamdan launched the Dubai Metaverse Strategy to position Dubai among the top ten metaverse economies in the world. The strategy aims to make Dubai a global hub for the metaverse community and build on the success of Dubai which has attracted over 1,000 blockchain and metaverse businesses. It also highlights Dubai’s ambitions to support more than 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030. This will further boost Dubai’s economy and support the UAE government’s vision to increase the current number of businesses that blockchain fivefold. .
